Go beyond standard MTHFR genotyping

Standard MTHFR genotyping only evaluates folic acid metabolism. Scientific research reveals that a variety of genes are involved in maintaining methionine/homocysteine balance (methylation potential). Genetic polymorphisms in these important genes influence your methylation potential. Individual methylation is monitored using homocysteine levels. Important SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) are included to evaluate your ability to methylate toxins so they can more readily be removed from the body.

Test components

The MTHFR gene is essential in the folate metabolism pathway. If the MTHFR gene has no SNP, the body can produce sufficient levels of functioning MTHFR enzyme, which is important for many biochemical processes and pathways in the body to maintain optimal health. A mutation to the MTHFR gene will affect the activity of the resulting enzyme. 5, 6, 10, 26-29

2. MTR
MTR converts homocysteine to methionine using Vitamin B12. Mutations in this gene significantly impact homocysteine metabolism, which increases the risk for a number of chronic conditions.30

COMT is necessary for maintaining the proper balance of neurotransmitters by using SAMe obtained from methionine. Disruption in this pathway can result in various neurological problems.
COMT also plays an important role in a variety of disorders, including estrogen-induced cancers, Parkinson’s disease, depression, hypertension and many others.31-36

4. Homocysteine
Homocysteine is an amino acid – a metabolic intermediate – that is involved in maintaining the methionine cycle. Elevated homocysteine levels are well known risk factors for chronic disease, particularly cardiovascular, diabetes and neurodegenerative.7, 10, 37
